'Piala Dunia Kecil' Dimulai

Delapan negara jawara masing-masing konfederasi akan bertarung dalam ajang Piala Konfederasi yang dimulai pekan depan. Inilah "Piala Dunia Kecil", sebelum hajatan akbarnya kick off tepat setahun dari hari ini.

Awalnya, Piala Konfederasi merupakan sebuah turnamen yang dilangsungkan di Arab Saudi dengan nama King Fahd Cup. Setelah digelar dua kali pada tahun 1992 dan 1995, FIFA kemudian mengambil alih kejuaraan tersebut dan menamainya dengan Piala Konfederasi mulai tahun 1997.

Meski semula digelar setiap dua tahun, Piala Konfederasi mulai tahun 2005 dihelat sekali dalam empat tahun sebelum Piala Dunia di negara yang nantinya jadi tuan rumah kompetisi sepakbola terakbar tersebut. Dan tahun ini, Afrika Selatan akan menjamu tujuh negara lainnya sebelum kedatangan 31 negara tamu tahun depan.

Walau jumlah negara partisipannya tidak banyak, Piala Konfederasi tak bisa dianggap sebagai kompetisi tanpa gengsi karena yang terlibat adalah tim papan atas di masing-masing benua. Ada Afrika Selatan, Irak, Selandia Baru dan Spanyol tergabung di Grup A. Tiga negara yang disebut belakangan adalah juara di masing-masing konfederasi.

Portugal Kembali ke Selera Asal

Hasil seri kian lekat dengan Portugal setelah Seleccao ditahan imbang oleh Estonia. Meski cuma di laga persahabatan, hasil-hasil seperti ini bisa mengancam mereka.

Rekam jejak Portugal di kualifikasi Grup 1 Piala Dunia 2010 zona UEFA memang tidak meyakinkan. Dari enam pertandingan, mereka hanya berhasil memetik dua kemenangan, tiga kali seri dan sekali kalah.

Dua kemenangan itu pun diraih Portugal atas dua tim lemah, yakni Malta dan Albania. Kemenangan atas yang terakhir ini diraih dalam pertandingan yang digelar akhir pekan lalu.

Namun setelah mengatasi Albania, Portugal kembali ke selera asalnya, yaitu seri. Tanpa bintang-bintangnya seperti Deco dan Cristiano Ronaldo, Seleccao ditahan 0-0 oleh Estonia di pertandingan friendly.

Queiroz selaku arsitek tim mengaku bahwa hasil seri lawan Estonia tidak berarti negatif. Keputusannya menurunkan pemain-pemain pelapis disebutnya sebagai upaya memberi mereka kesempatan.

"Tujuan utama dari pertandingan tadi adalah membiasakan pemain di lapangan, membuat mereka banyak bermain, tumbuh lebih matang dan berpengalaman. Itu semua tercapai," kata Queiroz di situs Federasi Sepakbola Portugal.

Meski begitu, hasil itu tetap menimbulkan kekhawatiran. Di tengah kewajiban untuk meraih hasil positif di laga kualifikasi tersisa, Portugal malah melempem.

Tevez Gagal Penalti, Argentina Kalah

Argentina menelan kekalahan setelah ditaklukkan oleh Ekuador 0-2. Pada pertandingan tersebut Carlos Tevez gagal memanfaatkan sebuah peluang emas dari titik penalti.

Meski bisa mengatasi Selandia Baru di laga persahabatan, namun Italia tampil mengecewakan. Meski begitu, pelatih Marcello Lippi menilai perlawanan Selandia Baru memberikan sesuatu yang positif bagi anak-anak asuhnya.

Italia menang 4-3 ketika menghadapi Selandia Baru dalam laga yang digelar Kamis (11/6/2009) dinihari WIB di Pretoria, Afrika Selatan. Pertandingan ini merupakan pemanasan bagi Italia untuk menghadapi Piala Konfederasi mulai akhir pekan besok.

Dalam laga ini, Azzurri bahkan sempat tiga kali ketinggalan dari lawannya. Gol-gol yang bersarang ke gawang sang juara dunia tersebut akibat kesalahan yang dilakukan pemain Italia sendiri.

"Kami melakukan kesalahan dan kami sudah menerima akibatnya. Namun kami bisa mengubahnya di akhir laga," ujar Lippi seperti dilansir dari Channel4.

Lippi tak menyalahkan penampilan anak-anak asuhnya. Ia memilih untuk berpikir positif. "Ada banyak hal baik dan buruk yang terjadi. Ini normal. Kesalahan selalu mengkhawatirkan. Yang jelas, melawan Selandia Baru merupakan laga pemanasan yang baik bagi kami," tambah sang allenatore.

Lippi juga menjelaskan alasannya menurunkan pemain-pemain yang selama ini jarang tampil, untuk menjadi starter ketika melawan Selandia Baru. "Ini merupakan laga yang bertujuan untuk latihan. "Sebagai rekan setim, saya hanya bisa mendoakan yang terbaik buatnya. Bukan hanya sekarang saja, tetapi seterusnya," kata Iniesta.

Inggris Lumat Andora Enam Gol Tanpa Balas

Inggris tinggal selangkah lagi menuju Afrika Selatan 2010. Itu mereka capai dengan kemenangan meyakinkan atas Andora dengan skor telak 6-0.
